What is it?
it is a centrally sponsored scheme announced in Budget 2022-23.
aims to develop villages along the northern border of India
It will cover the border areas of Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim and Ladakh.
It will cover 2,963 villages with 663 of them to be covered in the first phase.
Vibrant Village Action Plans will be created by the district administration with the help of Gram Panchayats.
Why do we need it?
border areas are often isolated and neglected
usually cut off from the mainland due to poor roads and connectivity
they lack basic facilities and this has led to migration
As a result, there is an acute shortage of workforce in the agricultural sector.
The lack of local industries in the villages aggravated the issue, as farmers have limited employment and income generation options.
How will the vibrant village programme help?
it aims to provide
Provide easy credit to framers.
Developing roads and other infrastructure.
Upskilling farmers.
develop eco- tourism
reverse migration
Develop sustainable eco-agribusinesses on the concept of ‘one village-one product’
the government has allocated ₹4800 Cr for this project, of which ₹2500 Cr is expected to be used for road development.
Significance in border security
aims to develop border villages to prevent migration. This will act as a buffer against plans of China to infiltrate and capture border areas.
aims to strengthen the security grid on the Line of Actual Control (LAC)
It will also provide a window for the ITBP to rest, recuperate and train its personnel.
the scheme is now in the initial stages and it will keep evolving with time.
That’s it for today. Good day everyone!
